Week 1

Week one... Of my working life! Just want to share my thoughts here about my job and environment.

1. Lenient dresscode
First week of work and I've been wearing less and less formal! I figured since we'll be wearing lab coats during work it wouldn't matter that much. And it really doesn't! Seniors have been wearing polo tee with slippers (but with socks, but still la) and I'm very tempted to wear just a t shirt with jeans one day lololol. I actually like this because I do not need to waste time picking out nice clothes, wearing make up, being super conscious of how I look in front of people and so on. And usually we will just hide inside the lab, so there's less chance to meet people except for patients who came to get their veins pocked.

2. Job
Job scope for Medical Lab Technologist (MLT) at the hospital I'm working at includes collecting people's blood (poke poke poke), perform tests, ward call, on call etc etc. Sounds easy but it requires a lot of techniques. I look up to my MLT seniors a lot, sibeh pro la. I really want to become pro like them someday lo! Hehe. On call means staying in the lab from 2PM in the afternoon UNTIL the next day 2.30PM, alone in the big big lab! I cannot be on call yet but I'm preparing myself for the sleepless night T.T Oh and the working hours on weekdays are 8.30AM till 4.30PM!

3. People
Lab manager is a friendly old man from Kuching. Although the seniors tend to gossip about each other but overall they're a nice bunch. A few are from UTAR too. They brought us out for lunch and kind enough to lend me their arms to perform phlebotomy, means collecting blood la ahahaha. There's chinese, malay and indians here. The chinese seniors usually speak cantonese to each other, so its a good time to learn to hear and speak cantonese too. But whenever I tried to speak in cantonese my foochow will be mixed in also -.-  The malay and indians speak malay, I suck at speaking malay so I'm learning also lo. Campur campur sikit.

4. Food
There's a canteen here, not very big but the food is nice. The main point is the staff price sibeh cheap! Mixed rice for outsiders they count as RM5.40, but for staffs its only RM3.80! Can save a lot of money. My seniors however preferr going outside for lunch instead because they've had enough of the similar canteen food everyday ahahha. Outside the hospital there's some malay stall, chinese stall, mamak and even Subway. So not bad la, won't starve to death here.

5. Transport
I take the lrt to work to avoid jam. There's a 10 minute walk from the lrt station to the hospital. I dont feel safe walking at that place (its at plaza rakyat, so apa apa people pun ada).. I kept a pepper spray in my bag just in case some hamsap lou or weird people approach me. It was given by Stephy few years back I think but I still never had the chance to use it yet. Maybe there's no pepper in it already lolololol >.<

I have not taken any pictures with my seniors. They don't seem to take much photos and I'm too shy to ask haha. I hope as time goes by I will be good at my job, and still holding on to my principles. Fighting~~~~
